Writer’s Strike

Anyone else wishing this writer’s strikewould end?  I understand their reasoning for the strike another way the Internet has changed the world of writing and the effects of such change in the real world, but for purely selfish reasons I wish they would come to an agreement already so that the shows I am addicted to would be put into reruns like the late night shows.   I find it interesting how the entertainment industry is trying to deal with the internet and downloading age we are currently in.  I wonder how long it will be until cds and dvds eventually become extinct because it is inevitable the question is just how long will it take.  And how will they keep hackers, who are constantly on their game coming up with new programs, from creating free down loading sites like Limewire?

Expensive Year

Ok guys get ready for an even more expensive holiday season with the gas prices set to go at least $.20 higher pushing Jersey gas over $3.00 for regular.  In an articlewith CNN, the cost of crude oil is getting closer to hitting the record high price of $100.00 a barrel!  I know this has been a reoccurring story for the last few years and I realize that most people including myself probably will not adjust our driving habits much but this is causing everything else to go up in price as well, like airfare prices and even milk.  I wonder at what price will people finally stand up and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!  We need to find another energy source and stop being reliant on foreign countries for our energy.

Another win for Eagles!!

Yes I know I’m obsessed with the Eagles but I can’t help it.  For those of you who don’t know, the Eagles defeated the Redskins Sunday 33-25 but it was a close game.  I honestly thought that they were going to lose this game.  All I have to says is thank good for Brian Westbrook who is our running back.  I feel that he is basically saving this team as much as he can.  In Sunday’s game he finished with 20 carries for 100 yards and five receptions for 83 yards.  That’s just incredible.  He also gave the Eagles 21 points with three touchdowns.  McNabb actually stepped it up this week so I have to give at least some credit even though I don’t think that’s he’s been playing that well.  McNabb completed 20 of 28 passes for 251 yards and four touchdowns.  That’s not too bad.  I’m not saying that the Eagles are at 100% but I do think that they are improving which gives Eagles’s fans hopes for the playoffs.  Hopefully the Eagles can continue to win games and make it to the playoffs.

McNabb speaks

I know I wrote about the Eagles before but I found this really important and interesting.  I found this articleabout how McNabb was saying that the team’s losing streak can’t all be blamed on him and he is only a piece of the puzzle.  I think he’s a little more than a piece of the puzzle.  I mean he is the quarterback.  That’s a major position and a big responsibility.  A lot of the offenses successes and failures have to do with what McNabb does.  I think he’s a huge part of why the Eagles haven’t been winning.  He threw two interceptions and had a fumble in the game against Dallas.  Dallas is just a team that you can’t make mistakes with that’s exactly what he did.  Two of the turnovers McNabb had lead to 14 points for Dallas in the first half.  I don’t really understand how McNabb isn’t taking more blame for his mistakes.  I think he’s a good quarterback but I just think that he’s lost his touch.

Eagles’s season over?

I don’t know about everyone else but I’m a huge Eagles’s fan.  It’s been kind of hard to be a fan lately but that’s what Philly fans do.  They stick by their teams in the hard and bad times.  That’s what I was always taught anyway.  Last night, they lost against the team that well let’s say I don’t really like, the Dallas Cowboys.  They lost 38-17.  I really don’t understand how this happened. I feel like we need to rebuild our entire team again.  I keep on saying to myself that the season’s not over yet but a lot of others don’t agree with me.  If you want more information on last night’s game go here.

End of Module

This module went by extremely fast for me.  It felt like we just started.  I just wanted to say that it’s been great working with everyone and I enjoyed reading everyone’s blogs.  I’m going to try to keep up with this form of communication and writing.  This technology seems like it’s getting easier and easier for me which is good because I’m becoming a teacher and I need to keep up with this kind of stuff.  See everyone next module!

Time Flies

I can not believe how fast this module flew by!  I feel like we are still on week 1.  I have to admit, upon entering this module I kept telling myself, “Why do I need to know about technology and how writing is influenced by it?”  But these past four weeks have changed my mind dramatically and made me realize the importance of technology when it comes to writing.  I have learned so much from this module, such as how to create my own information ecology through technology, how to get involved with social networking, and how to participate in blogging.  I never thought I would be doing such things, but I enjoyed it so much that I will definitely be taking what I learned with me.

Here is the link to my diigo site — SARAH  You won’t find any bookmarks yet, but they should be up soon!

And with that, I say job well done everyone!! I had fun with these blogs and will continue to use them as a means of communication!

Columbine

I don’t fully agree with the idea that technology is to blame for what happened at Columbine in 1999, as what is trying to come across in The Dark Night of the Soul article.  I also, find it ridiculous that people think the schools need to do more.  Don’t get me wrong, I think the school should do their best to be aware of each child and their individual needs, but I have to ask where are the parents?  They have become like absentee landlords when it comes to raising their children.  They expect the school system to provide all of the education curricular and non-curricular and emotional support as well.  I find it hard to believe that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold’s parents had no idea not even an inclination that something was amiss with their children.  Obviously they were clueless because they were not present in their child’s lives.  I think parents have forgotten that it is a 24/7 365 day job, and that they can’t rely on their children to tell the truth 100% of the time or to bring home their report card.  Parents should be involved with their children to the point where they know their friends, their teachers personally not just by name.  I think that the Internet has come a long way since it first came onto the scene in 1994.  The Internet that maybe was once an isolation from people is not connecting more and more people.  And while people are reading less textual information in the form of paper, people are reading and gathering more information today than was ever possible 20 years ago.  I also disagree with the statement that maybe if Harris and Klebold read more and talked about what they were reading this would of been avoided.  What about the thousands of “flagged books” like Hitler’s Mien Kampf?  I don’t believe the ideas in that book would have prevented this tragedy.  And furthermore, they did read and write in school and out and why did no one read what they had written?  I think the only way to stop tragedies like this from happening in the future is that parents and people need to be personally involved with one another, no longer can people have the attitude of “it’s not my business”.  People and communities need to come together and look out for one another.
